S&W keeps a number of mares at the facility each year to carry other mare's embryos, the mares are then bred by either live cover or artificial insemination to finally produce a foal between the chosen stallion and the client's mare.  This process allows multiple foals per year, a mare to still compete during breeding season, or if the mare is unable to handle pregnancy due to stress or health.  The recipient mare's genetics, behavior, or breed has no influence on the foal.  For more details on embryo transfer, artificial insemination, recipient mares, or egg collection and boarding, see our Information page.
